Description

The Senior Managing Counsel (SMC) will have primary responsibility for supporting Global Client Management (GCM) and its initiatives across business lines and geographies. GCM was formed two years ago to provide ownership for relationships with our Platinum institutional clients and to coordinate business development, multi business service offerings and overall relationship management for such clients. The SMC will lead the GCM legal coverage team and will coordinate the efforts of the broader Legal Department to provide legal support to G! CM, by seeking to identify and mitigate risk and to understand! applicable laws and regulations regarding the marketing and sale of products to clients in the countries in which clients are located. The SMC will also be the lead attorney for BNY Mellons Corporate Marketing function and liaise with colleagues supporting business lines on cross-business marketing issues.

Responsibilities:
Supporting cross-business activity, including the implementation of standard best practices and centralized legal department support of, Contract Transformation, to increase consistency amongst client agreements; Corporate Level Marketing Materials, and the ownership of standard corporate-wide marketing disclosures; and Salesforce.com/ Engage CRM system, as related to on-going global implementation;
Developing extensive knowledge relating to the full suite of BNY Mellon solutions to strategic clients, working in partnership with Legal Department colleagues who are subject matter experts to identify, anticipate and provide counsel! in connection with current and future strategic client needs and initiatives;
Working with Legal Department management to ensure a high degree of internal and external client satisfaction with legal services delivered; facilitate timely resolution of issues and requests; develop relationships with senior lawyers at client firms; and facilitate Platinum Client coverage team collaboration with identified Legal Department client coverage teams;
Developing and implementing an escalation protocol for GCM staff, Platinum Client Executives and Legal Department Personnel in connection with issues pertaining to significant strategic clients, including as related to litigation, service issues or errors, RFPs and client on-boarding; and
Overseeing direct reports in day-to-day support of GCM Legal Coverage functions, promoting and supporting staff in take-on of challenging long-term initiatives and urgent transactional matters, and serving as a resource for collaboration a! nd escalation.
The SMC will establish a strong partnership with the! key GCM client constituents to understand their needs and provide counsel in connection with their initiatives and decision-making processes. The SMC will have regular access to and interaction with LEXCO and Operating Committee members, as well as a high level of visibility to Executive Management.

Qualifications

Law Degree and minimum of 12+ years of relevant legal experience.
Broad financial services industry experience either in private practice or corporate environment required.
Proven ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks to deliver a timely work product in a pressurized environment, including frequent requests for same-day turnaround.
Proven ability to interact with senior level internal and external clients and legal counsel.
Excellent drafting and communications skills with a focus on practical synthesis and succinct presentation.
High energy, business orientation with proper perspective on commercial fiduciary balan! ce, and a collaborative solution oriented approach.
Proven and exemplary leadership and managerial skills and substantive competency.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to proactively monitor multiple projects and deadlines.
