How will you make an impact?

We are looking for a passionate communications professional with a strong background in integrated communications including the ability to work across a matrixed organization to reach diverse audiences. As Director of Business Communications, you will play an integral part of the global communications function, leading, developing and implementing communication strategies across key areas of the company, including business and corporate communications teams, commercial teams and our manufacturing and site based colleagues.

You will lead a team of communication experts who will create and drive strategies and tactics that help us connect with key stakeholders, including our customer-facing and non-computer facing teams (i.e., manufacturing, distribution and lab-based colleagues). You will lead communication strategies that elevate the work we do in support of our Mission, while also helping our site leaders better leverage communications as an engagement tool. You and your team will support communications team members aligned to our businesses to establish a proactive and collaborative approach, using consistent methods, strategies and approaches that you develop to enhance the impact of our collective efforts.

Reporting to the Vice President of Business Communications, you will collaborate across the Global Communications function, and help business communicators successfully implement localized communication initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate communications efforts.

This role is site-based in Waltham, MA or any US site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Serve as strategic communications leader, connecting colleagued, business and customer stories across the broader organization as a method of engagement with all stakeholders.
  • Build relationships across the businesses, commercial organization and communications function to enhance content generation.
  • Partner closely with Story Lab team serving as the leader from the business communication team.
  • Develop and lead communications initiatives that support our non-computer facing colleague population, working with communication partners within each business to implement at our global sites.
  • Lead, develop and implement communication strategies to engage our customer-facing colleagues, including quarterly connection events globally along with regional and local engagement including, but not limited to, sharing customer success stories, talking points, and other engagement opportunities.
  • Partner with business communicators on the execution of consistent programs and processes for site communication, including the development of a menu of communication trainings and toolkits that can be localized and customized based on needs.
  • In partnership with HR, business leaders and group communication partners, design and implement communications-focused training for site leaders to help improve leadership communication skills.
  • Analyze and understand the unique site cultures across our company and tailor communication approaches to audiences.
  • Uses metrics and analytics to gain insights into effectiveness of commercial and site-based communications channels.
  • Mentor and support the career development of team members.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

  • Minimum 10 years dynamic experience in communications, with an emphasis on internal communications and engagement.
  • Experience with commercial and site-based communications strategies.
  • Experience leading and developing teams.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively.
  • Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal and to establish and maintain strong relationships.
  • Strong writer, editor and storyteller.
  • Strong verbal communicator with excellent interpersonal and listening skills.
  • Combination of strategic and creative problem solver and hands-on tactician.
  • Business knowledge and intellectual curiosity to learn about business strategies, competitive landscape and scientific technologies.
  • Collaborative teammate, working toward the greater good of the organization.
  • Focused, detailed and organized and able to balance multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Open to feedback, flexibility and continuous improvement.
  • A curiosity about science or the life sciences is preferred.
  • Ability to travel domestically as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $160,100.00-$240,125.00.

This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. We offer a comprehensive Total Rewards package that our U.S. colleagues and their families can count on, which includes:
