The Patent Engineering Professional will work in an innovative and collaborative IBM Patent Center focused on a broad range of technologies representi! ng the entire IBM development environment. Under the supervision of a lead USPTO registered patent attorney or agent, the Patent Engineering Professional will be responsible for writing, filing, and prosecuting patent applications in the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office (USPTO). In addition, the Patent Engineering Professional will assist in developing the best process for doing such patent procurement work in a high volume mode, and will assist and mentor others in the Patent Center in their patent procurement work.
The ideal candidate will bring strong patent application drafting skills, and be comfortable working in a collaborative environment. He or she will be responsible for reviewing invention disclosures and patentability search results, drafting patent applications, and the eventual prosecution of patent applications filed in the USPTO. Although knowledge of the patent procurement process is preferred, on the job training will be provided in an interactive a! nd collaborative model to the highly motivated individual.
Excellent writing skills, communication skills, and a strong desire to learn are needed for this position, which will work with team members, inventors and other intellectual property professionals throughout IBM.
Candidates should preferably have a Bachelors Degree or similar education in any of the following:
Computer Science
Computer Systems Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
Materials Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Physics
Another science or engineering major with significant course work in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry or Physics.
Preferred candidates will be USPTO registered.
