The Director of Student Conduct reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and directs the student conduct program for students and student group! s, provides supervision and leadership for the Student Conduct Office, and serves as a member of the VP for Student Affairs leadership team.

Major Responsibilities and/or Classes to be taught

  • Develops, administers and revises as appropriate departmental policies and procedures and student conduct policies and processes consistent with College community standards and professional best practices.
  • Facilitates the appointment of hearing board members and provides leadership and training for residential staff, faculty, hearing boards, and others on appropriate resolution of student conduct matters.
  • Maintains student conduct records in accordance with all Federal laws and College policies and monitor and ensure compliance with Federal and State Laws including the Clery Act, Title IX and Drug Free Schools.
  • Serves as a member of the College's Behavioral Assessment Team with University Police, and academic and administrative unit! s to address and resolve issues.
  • Oversees communicati! on with students, faculty, staff, parents, attorneys and others regarding student conduct matters.
  • Provides confidential consultation for students with problems, questions, and/or concerns re: sexual assault, stalking situations, physical assault, harassment, problems with faculty and staff, etc.
  • Directs student programming and learning outcomes in the area of student rights and responsibilities designed to improve student development while achieving institutional objectives. Develops, implements and analyzes assessment initiatives that foster student success.
  • Provides educational programming and outreach for the College community.
  • Prepares/oversees the preparation of departmental publications, statistical and annual reports.
  • Represents SUNY Cortland and the Division of Student Affairs on College-wide and Divisional committees as well as University and external agencies as appropriate.
Functional and Supervisory Relati! onships

Reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs. Supervises one full-time professional, two full-time paraprofessional staff as well as the student conduct responsibilities of residence hall directors and hearing board members.

Required Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • Master's degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Evidence of progressive leadership in student affairs
  • Knowledge of and experience with federal, state, and local law and regulations pertaining to students such as the Clery Act, FERPA, and Title IX
  • Strong interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills
  • Able to exercise sound decision making and judgment
  • Strong problem solving and oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations
  • Computer literacy
Preferred Qualifications

Preferre! d Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Personnel! Administration or a closely related field
  • Demonstrated record of career progression in student conduct administration
  • Supervisory experience
  • Knowledge of strategic planning and student learning outcomes
  • Fluency in a second language
