The Sheriffâs Office in the Department of Finance is seeking an analyst to review, analyze, report and develop information received from the auditors, investigators and, as appropriate, deputies, assigned to tax fraud, cigarette tax cases, criminal tax audits and other related actions. The candidate will develop reports for review by the Sheriff, the director of Tax Enforcement and members of the executive staff. Reports will also be prepared and submitted to the Commissioner, Department of Finance, the Office of Management and Budget, the Mayorâs Office of Operations and Office of the Criminal Justice Coordinator for review by o! ther law enforcement and government agencies.
Working! with the senior analyst for the office, the analyst will:
- Perform research related to cases, potential cases, and/or tax returns using any of various tools such as Fairtax, Filenet, PASS, ACRIS, Lexis-Nexis, etc. This may include extensive collection and compilation of data from various sources and databases to which the Department of Finance and the Sheriffâs Office has access.
- Prepare reports and written analyses based on findings derived from research or other data. Reports and analyses are typically presented using Microsoft Excel, Access, or Word.
- Research and provide tax information in response to inquiries from attorneys, internal staff, and/or other law enforcement agencies, as well as the general public. Record complaints and/or help callers resolve complaints by referring to the correct party for action, as appropriate.
- Train staff in use of computer resources, including standard software as well as Departmental data! bases, systems, etc.
1. A masterâs degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a closely related field, and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; or in management or methods analysi! s, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; ! or in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee
benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management; or in a related area; or
2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in â1" above.
Preferred Skills
Prefer candidates with:
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, Access
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
