The New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG) has immediate openings in its Storm Response Unit for one or more litigation attorneys to assist with NYLAG's provision of comprehensive legal assistance to those New Yorkers who were impacted by Superstorm Sandy. Attorneys will focus on one of the following disaster-related areas: homeowners' and flood insurance, consumer issues (such as contractor fraud and mechanic's liens) or foreclosure prevention. In addition to carrying a caseload of direct representation matters, the attorney will provide pro se! assistance, conduct case consultations and engage in communit! y education and outreach. The attorney will assist clients at sites throughout New York City and Long Island and must be available to travel to/from these sites.
NYLAG seeks highly motivated attorneys with a commitment to public interest law and service to vulnerable populations. Applicants must have prior litigation experience, as well as excellent communication, research and writing skills. Applicants should have at least two years' of relevant legal experience and be admitted to practice law in New York State. Preference will be given to those applicants who also have bilingual ability in Russian and/or Spanish.
