Location: New York, New York

Description: Earthjustice Headquarters is at present recruited Associate Attorney right now, this vacancy will be assigned in New York. Earthjustice is seeking an associate attorney to join its Northeast Regional Office, based in New York City. The office engages in litigation and other advocacy addressing envi! ronmental health threats and climate pollution, including: (1) protecting people and ecosystems from toxics, pesticides, and waste from industrial agriculture; (2) defending communities and the environment from the adverse impacts of oil and gas development (commonly known as "fracking"); and (3) combatting the use of coal for power generation. The position commences in Fall 2014, with the specific starting date to be negotiated.

Responsibilities: The associate attorney may have primary responsibility for some matters but generally will work collaboratively with other lawyers in the regional office. Duties will include but is not limited to:

• Conducting legal research and preparing memoranda on issues relating to ongoing or potential litigation.
• Drafting motions, briefs, and other pleadings.
• Investigating facts and assisting with case development.
• Developing oral advocacy and presentation skills.
• Interacti! ng with clients and working with experts.
• Participati! ng in communications and organizing strategies related to litigation campaigns.

Qualifications: Applicants must be law-school graduates who are admitted to or willing to apply for admission to the New York bar.

• 0-6 years of legal experience in either general litigation or environmental law.
• Excellent research, analysis, and writing skills.
• Initiative, good judgment, and a strong work ethic.
• Passion for justice and the environment.
• Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
• Spanish language skills are a plus.
