Regeneron markets medicines for eye diseases, colorectal cancer, and a rare inflammatory condition and has product candidates in development in other areas of high unmet medical need, including hypercholesterolemia, oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, allergic asthma, and atopic dermatitis.

Position Summary :
As part of the Law Department, this attorney will advise internal clients and management on all facets of employment law, draft policies and handbooks, manage litigation, and perform a variety of other legal duties as needed.

Responsibilities :

  • Provide advice and support on employment law matters to internal business and HR partners - triaging with HR Generalist/Business Partner to work through difficult employee relations matters.
  • Counsel HR and business clients on performance improvement plans, terminations and other employment actions.
  • Set strategies with! VP HR and oversee outside counsel on administrative charges a! nd lawsuits.
  • Draft and negotiate, if needed, employment related agreements and policies in collaboration with HR.
  • Advise and establish strategies for preventative measures as a core practice for leaders and employees as appropriate.
  • Advise business on new employment laws and best practices.
  • Investigate and respond to demand letters and other employment-related
complaints.

  • Collaborate with Compliance in connection with investigations ofemployment-related compliance matters
  • Provide advice on employment law matters arising in corporate transactions and reorganizations
  • Conduct relevant employee training.
Experience and Required Skills:
Education and Experience :
  • BA/BS and JD with excellent law school credentials
  • Prior experience working in in-house setting with HR business partners
  • Licensed to practice law in New York or be eligible for ! licensure as a registered in-house counsel
  • 10+ years legal experience in a law firm or in-house position with a focus on employment law
  • Knowledge of the full range of federal and state employment statutes, prior litigation experience, and experience and knowledge with matters involving all aspects of labor and employment law, including discrimination, wrongful discharge, harassment, wage & hour and employment contract cases is needed.
  • Experience providing advice and counsel on workplace law issues, including employee relations, compensation, mitigation of risk, accommodations, ERISA matters, HR matters and employment-related policies is also required.
  • Ideal candidate should have extensive litigation experience including taking/defending depositions, drafting pleadings and should be capable of working independently.
  • Experience with ex-US employment issues a plus .

  • Ability to assess risk and balance company and employee needs in a manner consistent with company culture.
  • Managerial courage (the ability to take a stance, ask difficult questions) .
  • Excellent negotiation skills requiring exceptional interpersonal communication and oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to persuade with verbal and written communications involving multiple key client groups.
  • Ability to maintain an independent and objective perspective while developing and maintaining a strong partnership with the client organizations.
  • Ability to work independently on projects, set and meet aggressive deadlines and juggle multiple matters.
