The New York County District Attorney's Office seeks candidates to work in its Witness Aide Services Unit (WASU). WASU provides a variety of court-related s! ervices, social services, and counseling services designed to meet the needs of crime victims, witnesses, and their families. The unit also provides information related to the prosecution of the case, assists victims in understanding the criminal justice system, and provides information regarding crime victims' rights.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Contact victims and witnesses to obtain a supporting deposition.
Inform victims of the wide range of services available to them through WASU.
Explain the criminal justice system and provide case information.
Assist victims with orders of protection and registration for notification of inmate release.
Liaise with victims and Assistant District Attorneys.
Perform related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Candidates must possess a bachelor's degree.
Training and/or experience in customer-service and advoca! cy preferred.
Experience working with crime victims p! referred.
Ability to demonstrate a high level of sensitivity to victim issues.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must be detail-oriented and self motivated.
Ability to contribute positively in a team setting.
Strong organizational and computer skills.
Ability to handle high caseload and set priorities.
Ability to work overtime and flexible hours including holidays, evenings and weekends.
Oral and written Spanish Bilingual skills a plus.
Excellent vacation and benefits package. Salary $36,084.
