The Department enforces the City’s landmark Consumer Protection Law and related City and State laws; mediates thousands of consumer complaints; and prosecutes lawbreaking businesses through our Administrative Tribunal.

DCA is seeking a highly motivated Research and Investigations Coordinator to join a collaborative team primarily performing legal and non-legal research and contributing to investigative projects for the Legal Division, which is ch! arged with investigating and prosecuting businesses engaged in! illegal conduct. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Research, the Research and Investigations Coordinator will perform research to identify issues and relevant matters for an investigation and thoroughly compile and analyze findings. Investigations will utilize legal, factual, internet, and other research using all available data sources. Primary responsibilities will include: drafting documents and charges on behalf of the Department and consumers against businesses licensed by the Department and others; collecting and analyzing evidence for agency hearings; representing the Department at hearings; identifying and streamlining work processes through the development of relevant protocols; and performing administrative tasks and support functions for attorneys. The Research and Investigations Coordinator will communicate, correspond and interact with outside entities, including respondents, witnesses, and vendors to gather information or data, and will coordinate and co! nduct outreach and trainings on consumer protection issues and other related topics.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or

2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or

3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Professional, major Internet search engines and databases, as well as legal research using Westlaw. Ability and aptitude to quickly learn new computer programs and technology.
  • Experience and aptitude with public and private ! database research utilizing multiple investigative research techniques ! and resources.
  • Ability to read and understand laws and rules, analyze and document an issue, and present findings and recommendations to a supervising attorney.
  • Advanced skill and understanding with the operation and applications of computers and databases in legal research and litigation support.
  • Experience in handling multiple assignments with competing deadlines with a high degree of detail and accuracy.
  • Resourceful, independent self starter with effective organizational techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Project management experience preferred.
