The Legal and Compliance team oversees BlackRock's compliance with applicable laws and rules, and is responsible for, among other things, overseeing all regulatory matters - employees must direct all communications regarding such matters to a Department member; coordinating! all litigation and legal proceedings; negotiating contracts (! except certain BlackRock Solutions contracts); providing ongoing legal advice to business regarding new and existing products and strategies; establishing legal and compliance policies and procedures that meet applicable regulatory requirements and testing the operative effectiveness of those policies and procedures and conducting training.
Corporate Counsel Responsibilities:
We are in the market for an ERISA Attorney who will be responsible for providing legal advice and consultation, focusing on a broad range of fiduciary issues under Title I of ERISA relating to BlackRockâs investment products and strategies. The Attorney will also assist in coordinating projects and managing business relationships.
Requirements:
Requires a J.D. with superior academic credentials from a nationally-recognized law school and five to seven years' experience as a lawyer in a major law firm or in the legal department of a leading financial organizatio! n. Experience with application of Title I of ERISA to complex financial products is required. Experience with the Investment Advisers Act of 1940, the Investment Company Act of 1940, the Dodd-Frank Act and federal securitiesâ laws is helpful, but not required.
Must have strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple time sensitive matters in a demanding, fast-paced and fluid environment. The candidate must have the ability to coordinate complex projects involving different business groups and to assist the business in implementing solutions across the broad range of BlackRock products and services.
Having a business and solution-oriented approach to interacting and working with clients is critical for this role.
Exceptional analytical, written and oral communication and relationship-building skills required, as is a proven track record working as a member of a team. The candidate must have a strong ability to solve problems in a pra! ctical manner and to communicate complex concepts in an understandable ! way.
Experience in drafting and negotiating investment management agreements with pension plans and trading documentation with counterparties (derivatives, repurchase agreements) and as well as required disclosure documents is a plus.
The candidate should also be capable of overseeing work done by external counsel.
