Job Description
Duties
: R! esponsible for supporting the business growth of the JPMorgan Private Bank, for the specific Latin America offices, through the acquisition of new clients and cross selling to the existing client base in a consultative sales role by means of tax and financial planning tools and strategies that result in acquiring of new assets and clients for the Bank, and the selling of related trust and estate planning products. Business development efforts require ongoing consultation with clients, legal and tax advisors in multiple jurisdictions. Responsible for creation and/or review of complex legal documentation required to implement the details of clients' estate plans. Regular travel within country to conduct prospecting activities, which involve meeting with clients and advisors, conducting speaking engagements, training and seminars on related topics. Maintain current knowledge of legal and tax developments in targeted country (i.e. Brazil) and in foreign countries where clients ! assets, or holding and fiduciary structures may be located, (s! uch as the US, Bahamas, New Zealand, etc.). Prepare legal summaries with respect to those matters for dissemination to larger in-house and outside audience. Also responsible for product design and development with respect to tax and estate planning solutions targeted to the specific target country (Brazil) arising from changes in relevant legislation and tax reform.
This position will be located in New York covering the Southern Cone region of Latin America. The Wealth Advisor should be capable of addressing the estate planning needs of clients in country planning, off-shore planning and outbound planning.
Qualifications
Minimum education required:
Juris Doctor or equivalent law degree. U.S. trained lawyer with a Master of Law (LLM) or equivalent degree in US Tax or International Tax preferred.
Minimum experience required:
5 to 10 years of experience in Tax or Estate Planning with an International Bank or Law Firm. S! pecific practical experience in the different aspects of in-country planning, off-shore planning and outbound planning.
Skills required:
As a U.S. trained lawyer with a focus on Latin America, the candidate must have working knowledge of the specific country's tax system, (individual, corporate, and non-resident regime), succession law, and laws pertaining to local investments. With respect to off-shore planning, must have working knowledge of US tax system as it pertains to nonresidents, including corporate, partnership, trusts, US real estate, and US based investments. Must also have substantive knowledge of fiduciary (trust) law from multiple common law jurisdictions. (Bahamas, New Zealand, UK, Delaware), and relevant experience preparing and negotiating documents and agreements with attorneys from foreign jurisdictions related to estate planning, and in particular trust agreements.
