Description: Earthjustice is currently interviewing Legal Interns & Pro Bono Legal Fellows, Northeast right now, this vacancy will be depute in New York. Earthjustice’s Northeast office is now accepting applications for full- or part-time legal interns and pro bono fellows for fall 2012 and spring 2013. These positions are designed for current or recent law students (with academic credit or fellowship) or deferred/furloughed associates (with outside compensation), who are seeking the opportunity to volunteer for at least 15 hours per week for a period of at least 3 months. Positions are open in our New York City and Philadelphia offices, and applicants would be expected to work on a variety of environmental litigation projects.

Earthjustice is a non-profit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the magnificent places, natural resources, and wildlife of this earth and to defending the right of all people to a healthy environment. We bring about far-reaching change by enforcing and strengthening environmental laws on behalf of hundreds of organizations and communities. The organization operates out of nine regional offices, and the Northeast office focuses principally on issues related to coal-fired power, shale gas development, and environmental health.

Responsibilities : Legal interns and pro bono fellows work under the direct supervision of attorneys in the development and prosecution of environmental litigation and other advocacy. Interns and fellows will participate in a wide range of tasks that may include conducting case investigation, legal research, and discovery; meeting with clients and experts; and preparing memoranda, briefs, and other legal documents for administrative and judicial proceedings.

Qualifications: Qualifications include a demonstrated commitment to environmental protection; excellent research, analytic, and writing skills; and a strong work ethic. Significant knowledge of environmental and administrative law is a plus. We also value initiative, creative thinking, and the ability to work collegially with others. Applications are welcome from current or recent law students with academic credit or a fellowship and deferred/furloughed associates with outside compensation. There is no available compensation or benefits for these positions.
