Description: HSBC is hiring Dodd Frank Regulatory Specialist Attorney â€" Senior Legal Counsel right now, this position will be placed in New York. This lawyer will support the HSBC Global Markets (“GMâ€) businesses in their analysis and implementation of Dodd Frank-related rules and regulations impacting these businesses.
The role will report to the General Counsel GBM â€" Americas as well as to the GM Head of Regulatory Change and GM COO.
In addition to a strong knowledge of the implications and impacts of Dodd Frank and global regulatory reform on GBM, the successful candidate will need to possess a working familiarity with e! ach of the constituent GM businesses including, fixed income, ! equities, derivatives, FX, Emerging Markets, Structured Products, Investment Banking/M&A, and Capital Markets.
Depending upon candidates’ interests and experience, additional support opportunities may exist in other business areas.
Responsibilities Related to Position
:
Provide advice and counsel to senior management, GM line support attorneys and other business leaders on Dodd-Frank compliance issues
Support Governance, Risk Management and Compliance Department to ensure compliance with laws, regulations and policies
Develop, implement, and manage the effectiveness of the Company’s global legal compliance, risk management and commercial programs and policies relating to the implementation of Dodd-Frank
Provide legal advice and support for the Company's strategic and business development and integration activities, including collaboration with members of the GM Regulatory Change project team designed specifi! cally to assist with Dodd-Frank matters
Work closely with outside counsel to effectively develop common practices within the regulations to bring to the business team
Given Dodd Frank regulations are still evolving and, as such, is similar to a new business implementation initiative, candidate should possess the ability to extrapolate from past experience to offer bespoke solutions to issues raised
Advising on the legal risk of existing and new business activities as they may relate to Dodd Frank and its implementation
Assist in the creation and maintenance of standard documentation for transactions (including adherence to industry protocols) impacted by Dodd Frank
Participation in various ISDA and other industry initiatives relating to Dodd Frank
Identification of new legal and market practice developments that can affect business activities as a result of Dodd Frank
Frequent and ongoing interaction with front ! office and other infrastructure personnel (i.e., credit, compliance, op! erations, treasury, tax, etc.)
Education and training of business people, other control groups and inside lawyers concerning relevant Dodd Frank issues
Ma
nagement of the costs of internal and external legal services related to Dodd Frank
Management of Dodd Frank related legal risks
Ensure Dodd Frank compliance and operational risk controls are developed in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the HSBC brand
Observation of Internal Controls
Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
Qualifications

Minimum of six to eight years proven and progressive corporate legal experience, or equivalent

Minimum of a Juris Doctorate degree as well as admission to applicable state Bar and pertinent levels of courts in applicable states

Strong advocacy, negotiation, interpersonal, organizational, legal research and verbal and written communication skills
·
Ability to quickly apply abstract concepts of law and make quick, innovative decisions to resolve problems
·
Ability to defend the Company and Group affiliates from claims and advocate their interests while maintaining their reputation for honesty and integrity

Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent mainframe systems and software packages
