The general purpose of role is ensuring compliance by HSBC North America with U.S. GAAP and IFRS financial reporting requirements.
This role may exist in multiple areas within the F! inance function.
The area of focus and specialization of policy review, development, and compliance may vary as necessary.
Overall Accountabilities
- Develop, implement, and communicate corporate accounting policies and procedures to ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, IFRS and SEC reporting requirements.
- Advise and counsel management on accounting and reporting implications of proposed accounting changes.
- Determine appropriate accounting for recurring and nonrecurring transactions.
- Counsel and advise management on business-related accounting and reporting issues; analyze transaction structures and suggest changes or enhancements that meet objectives within imposed policy and regulatory constraints.
- Interpret and implement new or amended Company repo! rting requirements to respond to changes IFRS or U.S. GAAP.
- Develop a network of peer financial institution contacts to share accounting-related information, interpretations and opinions to develop policies for situations lacking clear guidance in U.S. GAAP or IFRS.
- Internal: Management at various levels within HSBC North Americaâs Finance and business units; HSBC Group Accounting Policy.
- External: Auditors; securities and prudential regulatory agencies.
- Manage the implementation of complex accounting standards and significant HSBC accounting or financial reporting projects and transactions by leading cross-functional groups of senior individuals.
- Sponsor and coordinate financial reporting and accounting-related trainings that broaden awareness and knowledge! of financial managers and individuals within other groups of the Company.
- Research, maintain and communicate more complex accounting policies and procedures to respond to new U.S. GAAP and IFRS requirements; ensure documentation supports Company position.
- Perform SOX controls for Accounting Policy as designed.
- Complete other responsibilities, as assigned.
Researching, and forming views on, complex accounting and financial reporting issues considering external and internal deadlines and operational and business needs and concerns.
Role Context
- ! The position works with all areas of the institution on a variety of pr! ojects and assignments.
- The position researches, analyzes and assists in determining the practical implication of accounting and SEC reporting standards and implements strategies for addressing accounting policy changes.
- Ensure compliance with operational risk controls in accordance with HSBC or regulatory standards and policies; and optimize relations with regulators by addressing any issues.
- Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with! any issues raised by external regulators.

Minimum of eight years proven and progressive major public accounting firm experience or equivalent, including a minimum of four years proven financial services or banking experience specifically with acquisitions, divestitures, treasury markets and products, variable interest entities and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements

Bachelors degree in accounting, related field or equivalent experience
·
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation
·
Self motivated and strong level of confidence is communicating with people of all levels of expertise
·
Strong communications, planning, organizational, analytical, project management, lateral thinking and presentation skills
·
Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and regulatory requirements, including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)! , RAP, SEC, Call Report, Risk-Based Capital and International Accountin! g Standards

Project management skills and computer skills (i.e. MS Office sutie of applications including Word, Powerpoint and Excel, and database skills

Ability to manage multiple tasks and work within time constraints and limited resources
·
Policy and Documentation Control roles will additionally require knowledge of broad range of asset classes and business is required while knowledge of US/FSA capital adequacy guidelines is desirable
