Court Representatives act as liaisons between the Court Employment Project and Supreme and Family court. Although Court Representatives are ass! igned primary responsibility for one Court they must be able to operate effectively in both. Court Representatives must have a thorough understanding of both courts as well as the different services offered to participants in both programs and GirlsRising, CEP’s program your young women. Court Representatives conduct extensive screening interviews, often requiring more that one session, and significant follow up and verification. Family Court requires family engagement and Court Representatives are responsible for working with families to explain the program, obtain information and assess the level of family support. Court Representatives must be prepared to provide sworn testimony during the intake process and at adjournment hearings and respond to extensive questioning about participants’ involvement in CEP. The position requires a strong familiarity with all the extensive services offered by CEP and an ability to effectively utilize that knowledge during testimony an! d advocacy. Court Representatives are required to become adept! at working with the CEP database, Microsoft Access and the Office of Court Administration database.

Responsibilities:

  • Screen for eligibility using OCA database;
  • Assess eligible candidates’ suitability for CEP based on information obtained in screening interviews;
  • Complete responsibility for all intake and consent forms;
  • Maintain working relationships with judges, probation officers, Assistant District Attorneys and Corporation Counsel, defense attorneys and law guardians;
  • Meet with participants and services staff to discuss program performance;
  • Contribute to edit and approve CEP written court reports;
  • Keep judges informed on all relevant program performance issues;
  • Collect screening information on intake and rearrest cases and track cases following completion of the program;
  • Enter court dispositions into CEP database;
  • Accompany participants to court appearances a! nd advocate on their behalf; and
  • Perform other court related duties, as needed.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree required;
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse group of staff and young people;
  • Interest in and sensitivity to issues facing young people in criminal justice system;
  • Proven ability to function effectively in a highly paced and often stressful environment;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to gather and evaluate accuracy of information under often less than ideal circumstances and formulate persuasive advocacy arguments for eligible defendants to be placed in program;
  • Basic computer skills
