Overview:
The Greater Hudson Valley Health System (GHVHS) is an integrated health care delivery system with three hospital members: Orange Regional Medical Center(ORMC), Catskill Regional Medical Center-Harris(CRMC-H) and Catskill Regional Medical Center-Calicoon (CRMC- C). Through this system relationship, the three hospitals have integrated support services to form GHVHS corporate departments in Finance, Planning/Marketing, Human Resources, Compliance/Real Estate/Audit, Legal/Risk Management and Information Technology. These corporate departments service all inpatient and outpatient sites in the Greater Hudson Valley Health System and provide the best service at the lowest cost, access to subject matter! experts and standardized policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
1. Oversees the investigation of all incidents/accidents/events that could lead to financial loss; including professional liability, general liability and Directors and Officers liability. 2. Accepts service of legal documents on behalf of the organization. Oversees the investigation of all claims; conducts internal investigation on lawsuits and potential claims; coordinates conferences between defense counsel and staff involved in liability situations. Administrates all other claims (auto, property. etc.) filed on behalf of the institutions. 3. Coordinates the reporting of patient care related incidences and non-patient related statutory events to the New York State Department of Health, as required by law. Directs investigations and development of corrective plans. Ensures that all necessary reports and follow-us are filed within the prescribed period of time 4. Assists in the preparation of the facility for inspection by various regulatory agen! cies including JCAHO, OSHA, NYS Department of Health, OMH and insurance carriers. Acts as a representative of the facilities and liaison to the inspector(s) during the survey of the facility.5. Has the authority and responsibility to take appropriate action when a hazardous condition exists that could result in personal injury to individuals or equipment or buildings.6. Acts as an advisor to all departments in the Environment of Care, Patient Safety, and Risk Management. Acts as a reference source for departmental efforts in Regulatory Compliance.7. Keeps informed on developments and trends in the field of Risk Management, Claims Management and other patient safety related fields.8. Assists in the review of contracts and advises on acceptance of contractual liability; assists in the review of insurance and indemnification provisions in proposed contracts, agreements, leases and reviews contracts with the oversight of the VP and general Counsel for GHVHS.9. Enter events and ! claims data into hospital data base relative to new cases in litigation! and potential cases that may lead to litigation. Communicate through appropriate correspondence to Health Information Management, Medical Staff, DI, and Laboratory Departments of the opening and closing of all claims.10. Process all Discovery and Inspection requests from defense counsel (acquire allrequested information, i.e. documents, polices, etc.).11. Provide information to defense counsel and Professional Liability Carrier for CRMC relative to identification of employees contained within medical records, andcoordinate defense counsel requests for depositions of hospital staff concerning claims by providing contact information and follow up correspondence to employee. Process transcripts when complete, notarize and return to defense counsel.12. Coordinate all defense counsel and Professional Liability Carrier investigation interviews with hospital staff concerning all open events and claims.13. Coordinate trial evidence including but not limited to medical records, rad! iologicalstudies, fetal monitoring strips, policies/procedures to defense counsel.14. Maintain and secure all legal and insurance files. Coordinate bi-annual claims meeting with primary P/L and G/L carrier.15. Maintain loss runs for the hospital professional liability and general liability cases.16. Maintain departmental log through a database for all requests and hospital visits by regulatory authorities, i.e. DOH, OMH, Joint Commission, OPMC, etc. Forward records to such authorities as requested, respond to citations, notify department managers.17. Acquire requested certificates of insurance for all special events and maintain file.18. Coordinate with the Medical Staff office to maintain a list of employed physicians with hire dates, termination dates and insurance carrier and status.19. Reviews and ensures coordination of CRMC occurrence reports of patient andvisitor occurrences and checks to see if investigation(s) indicated and if report completed and generate quarterl! y reports to Quality/Performance Improvement Committee.20. Develop and ! review Risk Management monthly reports/dashboards of occurrence trends and report to the VP, General Counsel for GHVHS.21. Review all attorney request letters directed to Risk Management Office and discuss with VP, general Counsel of GHVHS to determine whether further investigation and opening of event file is necessary.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing/CPHRM preferred Experience: Minimum of five years (5) of experience in Risk Management, health and Safety Management in the acute care hospital setting.
