Human Resources Intern

Dickstein Shapiro LLP, a reputable law firm with offices in Washington, DC, New York, NY, Stamford, CT, Los Angeles, CA, Orange County, CA and Silicon Valley, CA, with more than 50 years of service, currently seeks a Human Resources Intern in our NY office. The primary responsibilities of this position will be to provide administrative assistance in the areas of Benefits, Staff Recruiting, and Attorney Recruiting and Professional Development.

Primary Staff Recruiting responsibilities will include: working as part of the Staff Recruiting team to assist with the recruiting cycle, including reviewing resumes, phone screens, scheduling interviews and conference rooms, facilitating background and reference checks; maintaining applicants in the recruiting database, ensuring that resumes are processed efficiently; assisting with Staff Recruiting events; posting employment advertisements for job openings; maintaining and organizing all Good Faith Efforts (GFE); and assisting in preparation of reports and tracking of Affirmative Action information.

Primary Benefits responsibilities will include: assisting with the additions, terminations, and changes to all benefits plans; completing employment verification requests; working with the benefits team to process open enrollments and other benefits-related events, including flu shot clinics, wellness fairs, etc.; handling billing invoices and reconciliations for various benefits; providing back-up support in the maintenance of benefits-related information, including the input of benefits-related payroll changes in the HRIS database.

Primary Attorney Recruiting and Professional Development responsibilities will include: answering phones, photocopying, scanning and faxing, preparing check requests and filing; scheduling conference rooms; as well as special projects as assigned, such as entering data into legal and/or HR databases.

We are looking for someone who can work at least 22.5 hours/week with the flexibility to work longer hours on an as-needed basis. Qualified candidates must have previous law firm experience; strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint and spelling and grammar; strong organizational skills; and the ability to confidently and accurately communicate with all levels of the organization (written and verbal). This is a great opportunity for a student looking for part-time work and exposure in Human Resources, Business Administration or the legal field.
