Responsibilities:
Advise US Litigation and IP attorneys on federal and state procedural issues, and provide strategic oversight and guidance on calendar and court service offerings in the US. Collaborate with US Litigation Business Unit leaders, partners and professional staff to maximize U.S. non-partner attorney utilization and engagement management and profitability.

  • Together with local calendar and court service lawyers and managers, act as a consultant to all members of the US Litigation Group on matters relating to court procedure and rules in CA, DC, WA, OR, and NY.
  • Have oversight over the mechanics of all court filings, whether manual or electronic. Ensure all litigation deadlines are entered into the litigation calendaring system. Ensure calendars are distributed to all local litigation attorneys on a regular basis.
  • Work with our internal records department to ensure documents are filed properly and in accordance with our risk management policies.
  • Work collaboratively with the Litigation BU Assigning Partner, the PG Assigning Partners and the Office Assigning Partners to maximize associate utilization and to facilitate the efficient and cost effective staffing of litigation matters in the U.S.
  • Assist the assigning partners in staffing U.S. litigation matters.
  • Help the Litigation BU Assigning partner monitor associate utilization across the litigation business unit, identify and help resolve utilization challenges.
  • Develop and proliferate best practices, procedures and quality objectives for matter management in the litigation Business Unit. Mentor others regarding best practices and established procedures and quality objectives.
  • Consult on the use of alternative staffing approaches and automation where needed.
  • Assist the pro bono partners and assigning partners in ensuring compliance with pro bono policies and monitoring the appropriate balance of billable and pro bono matters.
  • Support Litigation BU leadership in monitoring utilization against budget and raising utilization challenges and opportunities with PGLs.
  • Liaise with Lawyer Development and the PDC to address performance deficiencies through training, coaching and, when appropriate, outplacement.
  • Manage monthly utilization calls and follow-up.
  • Assist in monitoring staffing and profitability of our largest fee arrangements. Collaborate with Chief Client Services Officer.
Qualifications:
  • JD from an accredited law school.
  • At least 5 years of Litigation experience.
  • Admittance to NY bar required; admittance to both NY and CA bars desired.
  • Thorough knowledge of all phases of litigation procedure from commencement of the action to the exhaustion of the appellate process. Knowledge of NY practice and procedure required.
  • Ability to prioritize and allocate technical and personnel resources to meet multiple competing demands. Prior supervisory experience in a law firm or court environment is important.
  • Superior organizational and interpersonal skills.
